Chinese media regulation (Friends)
Question:
Media regulation 'how media regulation has failed everyone' how far do you agree with this statement?
Media regulation has failed many people several times over the past few years, and this is more evident in China as they have been known to censor most foreign and local content if they do not meet they're high censorship standards. An example of this can be seen when Friends a show released by Bright/Kauffman/Crane Productions (which is in association with Warner Bros. Television.) in 1994 and was originally aired by NBC, which was then aired in China for the 2nd time by Youku a Chinese streaming platform, but this time they would heavily censor it to the point where it's barely recognizable from the original, this type of censorship could lead to massive amounts of misinformation and could lead people to do illegal things such as pirating it just to see the uncensored version, in addition to censoring some dirty jokes from Friends they also censor LGBTQ+ content in China which really kills any LGBTQ+ representation in China which also gets rid of their opinions about the matter. Some news reports also suggested a fan of the show complained about the censorship with the #FriendCensor move which was then silence by the government which removes their freedom of speech. But despite that it still has it's merits of protecting much younger audiences from sensitive jokes/content but sometimes the censorship in China can get a little bit over the top.
