Post-production
Video Editing (Angelo):
Music Video Editing
This is my editing for the music video I made.
First, before anything I imported the ‘Ghost Town’ Audio into Hitfilm ( My editing software )
I named it appropriately
I lowered down the volume to not make it too loud
I started importing files we have on the drive
By using the ‘import’ button at the top left corner, I imported the videos to Hitfilm
I Edited the videos by cutting them into pieces ( By using the clipping tool ) and finding the best scenes to use for each part, Following the storyboard. I also used jump cuts on appropriate beats to show time leaping forward.
I experimented using the letter box in the music video, But It didn't sit right for me to use it so I removed it.
Done with the first few scenes, I imported the next videos for our next scene. Which was the football one.
Like before I edited the videos according to the beat and used the appropriate scenes.
This scene where he Shoots the ball and misses is done purposely. As the lyrics said: “ I want to hit the red dot”, But he didn't hit it, He tries but He still fails. It’s foreshadowing the bad events in the future.
The first few scenes of the beach and football scenes are pretty bright. This was done by Increasing the saturation value as shown here. The higher the number, The brighter the scene gets. I increased the saturation to show the scenes in a positive light and to conotate good meanings to the audience.
Through the use of Jump Cuts I finished Jason’s Going home scene, Still with bright saturation and effects.
After finishing the football scene, I worked on the Intro for My music video Which featured a Title card of ‘Ghost Town’. I did this by using the text box option in Hitfilm and positioning it correctly with the right font and size to fit with the Video in the background.
After finishing up the previous scenes, I Finally did the breakup Scene. At first The scene was exactly like the one above. But after some thought, I made it black and white to give a more emotional and sad feeling.
I also Made the screen zoom in a lot more, to emphasize these hard hitting texts.
I added some more beach scenes.
To create the feeling that multiple days had passed by, we used a fixed camera and shot Jason multiple times doing various actions. Then in Editing I jump cutted the video to match the timing of the beats and in addition to that, I Decreased the saturation of each jump cut to show that He’s going deeper into depression.
Using the black & white and Black diffusion effect I managed to make this scene look depressing and sad.
I slowed down this specific scene by using the rate stretch tool, this was done to create a more emotional meaning
To Show Jason is still feeling fuzzy and unconscious, So I blurred the video. To show the transition from blurred to not blurred. I cut the video into multiple smaller pieces and changed the level of blur for each cut.
I used a jumpcut to make Jason’s Wall Punching seem much harder than the original
In this Scene I zoomed the footage ever so slightly and zoomed out, To create the feeling of Chaoticness.
Using the correct timing and and cuts I managed to create a seamless transition from the camera going down to Jason falling into the bed.
This Scene was done by Jonathan, I added it in
I Zoomed the video
To create a continuous feeling for the shot, I shot three different shots of the same action and then on the post editing I edited them together. This results in three different angles / perspectives.
( Notice how the Black and White here is far less dark than previous scenes, That was done intentionally ) As I want these scenes to be less dark than previous scenes.
Starting with this scene, the rest of the scenes are color
I used a series of jump cuts to show the montage
This video is reversed, Originally it started from the boat riders. But It didn’t feel right to have the clip end on the scene in that picture. So I reversed it.
